Feel the Bass of the Goombay Festival

If you visited Coconut Grove this weekend you certainly felt the vibration. Not from a car’s bass speakers but from the live traditional drums and Bahamian bands at the 36th Annual Goombay Festival. Believe it or not Coconut Grove has steeped in Bahamian culture since the early 1800s when Bahamians immigrated to Miami for employment opportunities. They were mainly laborers and craftsmen. In 1976, a group of Coconut Grove locals decided they wanted to celebrate that persevering spirit with a festival.
