Juan Angel Wins the 4th Annual Hot Dog Eating Competition, Downing 10 Dogs in 10 Minutes!
CocoWalk’ Independence Celebration was a fun day for kids and adults! The Hot Dog Competition was the crowd’s favorite, drawing five local guys to vie for the Grand Prize package valued at $1000.00! The scorching sun did not stop Juan Angel from stealing the competition from runner-up Daniel Encinosa, who managed seven dogs and received a prize package worth more than $150.00. Paragon Grove 13 sponsored the hot dogs and the beautiful Guayabera Girls from Guayabera World were the contest judges and hot dog handlers.
The Beer Pong event saw three teams competing, and the last team standing was Joe Rinaldi and Aaron Anthon, who each took home prizes worth more than $80 from CocoWalk merchants. Bice Bistro sponsored the first time event. Kids Hawaiian Punch Pong champs were Chandra and Cassidy, who won movie passes, popcorn, and ice cream! Kids were also treated to fantastic face painting by Lola and balloon toys from Diron. CocoWalk provided hundreds of July 4th fun freebies to kids and adults, who happily picked up the red, white, and blue fans!
Peter Bernard delivered an upbeat steel drum and vocal performance, while entertaining and interacting with the Courtyard guests. Deck 52, a well-known local Classic Rock band, took control at 7 p.m. and performed high-energy material from the ‘60s and ‘70s right up to 11 p.m. The Courtyard came alive with singing and dancing – a fitting tribute to America’s birthday celebration!
Special thanks to these CocoWalk merchants and friends of CocoWalk for their generous prize donations: The Cheesecake Factory, Coco Cigar, Guayabera World, Edward Beiner, Bice Bistro, Panini Grill, 305 Wireless, Maui Nix, Romeo & Juliet, Paragon Grove 13, Starbucks, Tervis, Fat Tuesday, Palm Produce, and the Mayfair Hotel & Spa and Coconut Grove Arts Festival.
